Embroidery from Konavle
Konavle is the southernmost part of South Dalmatia. It was acquired by the Dubrovnik Republic in the 15th century. The region is well know for its embroidery and high quality stone masonry. This deeply traditional communities have prospered after the Čilipi airport was build in the 1960-ies. Čilipi with its folklore performances and a fishing village of Molunat are the most well know attractions. The embroidery, better know under the name of "poprsnica" is a decorative element of the female folklore costume. It is hand-made from dyed silk. Black, red, and dark green colours are mostly used interspersed with golden and yellow tassels. The embroidery can be also applied on curtains and table tops. Konavle has a good land and sea connections with Dubrovnik.
