Small town, 63 km far from Dubrovnik was built in 14^th century. Famous due to salt production by using the method of evaporation of the salty sea water. The town was surrounded with walls to protect salt fields. Until recent history the only means of preserving food was putting it in salt, drying, or smoking. Having salt meant having power. The place is also famous for its oyster and mussel beds.
