Gothic pieta * Gothic pieta above the south entrance to the Franciscan church. This is a work of the local Petrović brothers, Leonardo and Petar (1498-1499). The Pieta and the 15-th century campanille are the only Gothic or Romanesque things that have survived the 1667 earthquake. The church has been rebuilt in Baroque style. * 782 x 600 * (140KB)

Rector´s palace * The loggia of the Rector´s palace. The building is an fusion of Gothic and Renaissance flavors. The palace was destroyed a few times by nearby explosions of the gunpowder magazine. It was rebuilt by Onofrio della Cave between 1436 and 1442 in Gothic style, just to see it being severly damaged again in 1463. The Renaissance flavor was introduced by Florentine architect Michelozzo Michelozzi. The Korčula stones withstood the 1667 earthquake. * 782 x 600 * (118KB)
